I found a piece of my hometown's history in my own front yard.

It's a bus token from my local transportation system that hasn't been in use since 1930.

Welcome gotreasurehunting ! Congrats on the cool token! Good luck to you in 2008!

uh a question half fare ? -- what for kids or employees going home from work ? -- why half fare --odd

Half-fare was for kids. For a nickel they could get two half-fares and make it to and from school. Everyone else paid a nickel for one way. Hope the kid that dropped this made it home!

Hey, GTH! Congrats on the token; yes, it is a piece of history. I didn't know WM had busses at any time. :D I'm in your east yard; work out by the airport and live in Richland Parish. Welcome to TN! :)

I love the detail on that token. One of the finest token designs I have seen.

Are you sure they were buss tokens, and weren't streetcar tokens?

We found some tokens here that were nowhere near as neat as yours but when the research was done they were streetcar tokens.
Our town had horse drawn streetcars on tracks as the first public transpotation in the valley.
They stopped it around WWI.
There was no public transportation untill a few years ago when they started running busses.

BTW...
Welcome to TNet.
Great way to start out.

Actually it could be used for either a bus or a street car. I remember now that this token was discontinued in the early 1930's because the street cars were retired from service. Sorry I forgot to mention this, I just plain forgot about it.

Streetcar tokens are much more special than buss tokens.

Just my personal opinion... LOL
