This is the third bird band I have found to date, I really like these because I get a certificate to print out and find it very interesting. I also found a carebener and three feet from it five keys before a lighten storm chased me out of there. Oh yeah a buzzbait too!

Enjoy the pix

Good finds. Don't think I ever saw a bird band before. Pretty cool.

That's really cool! I've found two bird bands before never had much luck finding correct info. You've got me inspired to try and track them down. Thanks for sharing. Congrats and HH

Great find for you, not so much for the Osprey.

This one didn't make it past 11. From what I understand they live about 25 years.

Bird bands are on my Bucket list.

Nice.
Dug a 2008 Roller pigeon band Saturday. Info on band is only for the breeder. No way to look them up. Have quite a few goose bands attained with my 12 GA goose detector.

I don't remember ever finding an Obvious government Bird Band.

mine have all been Private Bands.

cool Find

That's awesome sounds like you just made the hobby a little more fun far ya. Great!!!!!!!

Congrats on your 3rd band. I wonder if I sent the one I found dated in 1948 will get me a certificate?

Now if you could only find that Treble Gilt button.........

Thanks guys for the comments, now I have to make a band necklace.

Never found a true bird band, still on my wish list.
Congrats on 3 now!!

Wow! I've banded a few sea birds in my time. To find these is such a grand thing. There's so many levels of satisfaction. My favorite part is finding out the species. So cool.

I would think you would not have to send it in, call the number 1-800-327-BAND, there is some info on this link about old bands.
I for one would love to see a pic of yours (put it up here) you can send the Gov. pix too, I know on that site it is possible.

nice find
Thanks

Thanks, I wish I knew how they ended up dead?

i have found 9 or 10 bird bands from 1924 thru 1937 this year they are all marked SBPA and have not found any information on them
the bands are large all most 3/4 inch in dia.
will try and dig em out to post pictures

Those are nice finds Treble. Each state is different as far as the certificate and info goes. Here in Illinois, we actually have some bands that are "reward" bands. If you or a hunter find or harvest a bird with a band, some say reward $ 25.00 $50.00 and $100.00 just to coax you into calling in the band so they can track the bird. Of course now that our state is so broke, i'm sure they are issuing I.O.U.'s with those, as they are with winning lottery tickets ! How sad. I have also found a few pigeon bands, and there is a site you can go to type in the info and find the homing pigeon clubs and owners info, so you can send them an email to let them know you found the band. Guess some homing pigeons have broken GPS systems and cant find there way back. The owners usually appreciate it, but they dont issue certificates.
