I went to a local spot that was a farm from the late 1800's till 1965 or so. An hour into my hunt after digging shotgun shells and the cool lantern piece I had another iffy zinc signal so I started digging and didnt stop for the next hour. I only had a garden trowel but managed to dig a 2x3 hole and there is so much more left. I plan on going back tomorrow with a real shovel.

HH. looking forward to seeing your other treasures!

Those are some great looking bottles!

See if you can locate the edge of the dump, dig down a couple feet and then work into the pit. This lets you work the trash loose with minimal risk to breaking glass.

Jackpot! You think you found a filled in privy hole? What's that mess of gears...an alarm clock?

Hello All, I just received my first metal detector a Garrett AT pro, now I'm looking for people to go detecting with. I'm 53 from Mountain Top, if someone can point me in the right direction...I tried it out today in the woods behind my home by a stream. My first three finds were a piece of steel. a can top, and bubblegum foil. No beginners luck.. read the manual but still was confused. Thanks Alan

Hello Allen, don't get discouraged, just practice with different coins & metal objects, then try detecting some yards or parks, it will get easier as you learn your machine.

Good Luck, Fossis.........

That's really cool! I myself have just located a dump site at an old house foundation in the woods. Been a little cold to go out and get into it. Might have to put out offers for some help with it. I don't think I can do it all by myself!

nice spot!....bet theres more to come :icon_thumleft:

hang in there Alan. try it out in your yard, the main thing is don't get discouraged and give up,the more you get to know your detector and get used to it the more you will find. I have been using a detector and looking for about 47 years now and have yet to find my first gold coin, but its out there waiting for me somewhere. H.H. Back to the topic, sounds like a great trash pit, love finding those old bottles, keep us updated on what else you get out of there, wear gloves and be safe, great pictures. :icon_thumleft: fred

Nice haul..luv old bottles

Nice dig rusty... you never know, some of those old bottles can get pricey. Time to do some research ! and don't forget around the foundation, property stone walls and any old oak trees.
Good luck!!
