So I drove about 25min to go hunt a house yard. The house was built in 1890 and when I got there I discovered that the property was about a half city block. It certainly looked like I was in for a fun day! Within the first 5minutes I pulled out that red TootsieToy and then an elderly gentleman from next door came by and started talking to me and telling me where everything was located in the past on that property. I was getting modern coins at 5-6" in several places, so I avoided those spots like the plague. Apparently there was a lot of fill dirt. I then came across an old token where the garden used to be.
The token reads: "American Osteopathic Association 85th Anniversary of the Birth of Dr. A. T. Still Kirksville, MO, Aug. 4-9, 1913" The reverse is blank. It is about the size of a silver dollar. I then found another one about 10min later just a few feet away. I then found that thing with the C on each side of it that appears to be part of an old clock winding key or something of the sort.. Except for clad and junk.... that was all I found from that yard.
That guy from the beginning was still there at my side the entire time, not saying a word, just watching like a little kid would. After I was done hunting that yard I asked if I could hunt his yard. His house looked to be about the same age, but his yard was much smaller. I only did the front, as he told me the back had lots and lots of fill dirt brought in.
I finished his front yard with 6 Wheat Pennies (1917D, 191?, 1944, 1945, 1950D, & 1957D), a 1958D Silver Roosevelt Dime, a 1944 Silver Mercury Dime, a Good For 5 Cents Token with some advertising on it that I can't really make it out. It almost looks like it says "?? M. Matchett ??IGGIST TOILET AR
?E MULB? FLA."
Then... the highlight of the day.... and my detecting career so far... a key date Walking Liberty Half Dollar! 1916-S!! I didn't even realize it was anything worthwhile until I got home and checked out my 2007 Redbook and the price at G-4 is $120... not too shabby... and to think I was just letting it jingle around my pouch all afternoon, haha.
I found the Walker, mercury, a wheat, and a clad memorial all in the same hole... odd combination of finds!
I also have a little drawer knob that has grown into a tree root... That little booger was about 8" down and impossible to get out!
