What do you guys and gals think? Ive not found many coins deep with the MXT, about 5 inches at the most but have found allot and pinpoint is dead on. Only three silver dimes. When I say 5 inches, I mean 5 inches into the ground not the bottom of the coil which is usually a inch above the ground. I read somewhere in here that someone found a dime 18 inches in the ground, I find that hard to believe. Anyhow, what would a se do for me except empty my wallet? I'm going to keep my mxt, talk about a turn on and go detector this is one of them. convince me members!

Well if you Buy an SE your number of finds will decrease for a while as you learn the machine. Pinpointing takes a while to get good at with the SE. The SE is a lot heavier than the MXT.

If you do buy one, get a small shovel because you will be digging some deeeeeeepppp holes. I haven't found a coin at 18 inches yet but I did pull a 1943 Florin from 10 inches! (with Baldingboy's help).

I love my Explorer and once I get it figured out I am certain I have bought the right machine for me.

There is no doubt the SE is a little deeper than the MXT, but it has more to do with the DD coil which covers more ground at depth and doesn't react to ground minerals as bad. You said your MXT is a turn on and go. That might me more of your problem as you should manually ground balance it for max depth. Properly adjusted, the concentric coil on the MXT is deeper than a DD, but the DD doesn't need to be overlapped as much so you cover more ground per sweep.

Everyone knows I am a fan of the Minelabs, but with proper use of the detector you have will increase your finds more than spending $$$ on a SE. The SE is heavier and takes a little longer to learn too.

Course you could be like me and just get it cause you WANT to learn something new. Doesn't matter what I find, the fun is in the learning.

Good Luck,
Sandman
