in salt water spots over the yrs
at some spots i have found up to ten halves and i know others that have found their share also at these spots.
I know some people that have none or very few.
I have to say that most of ones i have found over the last 10 yrs + - have been found
at spots that many have thought were cleaned out of old stuff and most just go for fresh drops every year.
Most I have found have been over a foot down...and like I said...many dont try and go deep at these spots - at least
not anymore or newbies dont know whats down deep at these spots
I always surprise other hunters when we head out and they have a pouch of new finds and
I have blackened and crusted silver finds and sometimes old gold.(and wheats, indian heads - V nickels and buffalos)
I have wondered though about the amount of half dollars at a few spots - one area of one beach - they had early seaplane rides
I tried doing research on what the price of rides were but have yet to find a record or old poster or advertisement
but think they might have charged 50C.
Another spot where I found at least 10 of them and I know 2 other hunters that found more than a few...
I was told there was an old dance hall and held chicken dinners there right on the beach pre WW II.
I was told that they supposedly would throw bunch of silver dollars out in the water and you could get a chicken dinner with one.
Dont know if thats where "winner winner chicken dinner" came from?
Don't know of anyone ever get a silver dollar from these spots - only a lot of halves.
I looked up what 50c could get you in 1937 and found out its was a half a chicken - so I might have something here
Dollar would buy a whole chicken - supposedly
The spot with the seaplane rides was in 40s-50s...Ive gotten lot of Walking Libertys here and some Franklins
Spot with the dinner/dancing hall - which ran from like 1920s till 1940 - I get Barbers and Walkers
I have a few other spots Ive gotten and have seen others get their share at too.
Those spots have heard they held dinners too way back when.
Just some thoughts.
Ive found like at least 20 silver halves on land - mostly before 2000 - when I hunted land more
I have at least 60 from water since 2000 from at least a dozen spots
Im still grounded right now due to health issues - was going to try some farm fields but one thing or
another (besides my primary issue) has kept me from it - was going try today but my girlfriend just came down with
covid and had to cancel plans
Good luck to everyone that can and does get out - Please post some finds for me
