All I can tell you is it looks like there is leather remains on it. Any ideas on what this thing was? It was giving an iron signal on my detector.

A fastening post /stud for a leather strap, found on ammo pouches for example. The pre-cursor to the snap fasteners used later, in which the stud was more rounded.

Awesome, I didn't realize it was a possible civil war relic. I'm going to go back to that spot and see if there is maybe a plate off the ammo pouch. Thanks guys.
