It appears to be a 1905 O Barber dime!! It's still very dark even with water. What's going to get the best way to clean it? I'm so excited I'm ready to die.

Not sure if it's a O I'll have to clean it but I think I see and O with my magnifying glass.

congrats on the first and the silver.:hello2:

Congrats, you know the harder we try the better the results....and you have been hard at it lately.Good job, and don't die just yet, there's more to be found.

Congrats. Those New Orleans mint Barbers can be worth quite a bit. Your in the right part of the country to find them

Don't clean it! You will appreciate it's "as found" look more in the future.

I used to clean all of my coins, so they looked shiny... however, after careful consideration, I realized that it took a long time to get that blackish patina, and that is how and "old" coin is supposed to look.

If you must, rub the coin with baking soda between your fingers.

Congrats on scoring the Barber!

Very well done.

Congrats! I just scored my first barber dime yesterday.

It will devalue your coin if you clean it. You can always clean it later, but you can't unclean it. After damaging a few potentially valuable coins by cleaning them I leave them alone unless they are too messed up to be worth much.

Congrats on your first Barber dime! Hopefully just the first of many to come. Keep us posted if it is an 'O' version...

Congrats on your first! If it's valuable don't clean it. I like my old silver to look dug (just like Carolina Tom). However, SOMETIMES I'll lightly zap with electrolysis, just enough to see detail-certainly not shiny and new looking. You could also try the spit and tinfoil method for a minute, check it and see, continue until it looks good to you.

Take some baking soda and water make it into a paste and litely rub it over the coin you won't hert it at all, now if it was key date coin don't touch it leave it like you found it, I have found at lest 4 hundred Barbers over the years and this is what I do in that condition....

Hey everybody I appreciate y'all so much for all the advice and I have hammered this little area because I couldn't believe that somebody just drop the 1900 Indian head and not anything else. And I've went over this small piece of land over a dozen times before. I love when my stubbornness pays off. So anyway I believe it's a "micro o" but the black is hindering me from really knowing so I think I'm going to have to clean it.

Big Congrats on finding the Barber dime! I sure hopes it's a 'O'.

Congrats! Welcome to the Barber club.

IMO
I'd leave it as is , as if it's in fine Condition & you can Clearly read Liberty On Ms. Liberty's Head Band ( The Retail goes into double Digits.) If indeed an O or micro O.

Please don't remove that patina. (On my Knees) But it's your coin sooo do with it as you wish.

If it's a micro "o" it's pretty valuable! I sure hope it turns out to be the real deal!

UPDATE::: Unfortunately after further review it appears not to be a "O" or micro "o" mintmark. But I'm loving it.

I really appreciate the compliment I definitely work hard at it, almost daily these days. It's good being able to work out of my house at night and also have insomnia for the day :)))

I had more to say , but wanted to get the Please don.t clean post up.

As I stated all my Opinion , unlike park pirate & his "at-least 400 Barbers" WOW WTG PP.

I have only dug 3 in 17 years, the first was in 1999 a 1903 O , boy I scrubbed & tarnexed that thing until the Micro Scratches were Very Noticeable , Here almost 20 years later it still bother's me & I avoid looking at the Coin that was / is XF or AU IMO. I'm hoping those micro-Q-tip Scratches have tarnished over some by now, I'm Def, OCD about such things.

I found a Slick (Dateless one ) in 2012, & eyeballed one just as my loop was about to go over it in 2016 ..1908 O in Fine to VF IMO.

Those are the only 'O' mint coins I have ever found , & 1905 is my Granddad's Birth year so I have purchased a-lot of 1905 Coins & that year For some Reason Barbers 10, 25 ,50, are worth more than the few previous years & Especially in Fine+ Condition. also Excluding 'S' mint coins . Sorry now that I look ; my valve Quote goes for 1905 Quarters & Halves more so than Dimes . Hope u got the Micro O that would be Cool.
& The 'O' makes it even Better.

No matter the Valve or Condition , Id be Flying high just to dig a Philly 1905 Dime.
A great Find My Friend. WTG!...:hello2:
