It appears to be a 1905 O Barber dime!! It's still very dark even with water. What's going to get the best way to clean it? I'm so excited I'm ready to die.

UPDATE::: Unfortunately after further review it appears not to be a "O" or micro "o" mintmark. But I'm loving it.

I had more to say , but wanted to get the Please don.t clean post up.

As I stated all my Opinion , unlike park pirate & his "at-least 400 Barbers" WOW WTG PP.

I have only dug 3 in 17 years, the first was in 1999 a 1903 O , boy I scrubbed & tarnexed that thing until the Micro Scratches were Very Noticeable , Here almost 20 years later it still bother's me & I avoid looking at the Coin that was / is XF or AU IMO. I'm hoping those micro-Q-tip Scratches have tarnished over some by now, I'm Def, OCD about such things.

I found a Slick (Dateless one ) in 2012, & eyeballed one just as my loop was about to go over it in 2016 ..1908 O in Fine to VF IMO.

Those are the only 'O' mint coins I have ever found , & 1905 is my Granddad's Birth year so I have purchased a-lot of 1905 Coins & that year For some Reason Barbers 10, 25 ,50, are worth more than the few previous years & Especially in Fine+ Condition. also Excluding 'S' mint coins . Sorry now that I look ; my valve Quote goes for 1905 Quarters & Halves more so than Dimes . Hope u got the Micro O that would be Cool.
& The 'O' makes it even Better.

No matter the Valve or Condition , Id be Flying high just to dig a Philly 1905 Dime.
A great Find My Friend. WTG!...:hello2:

Although it's not an o it appears to have very little wear, it's just with the black you can't see it all that well. Just two blocks away from there on the sidewalk strep I found a 1829 Mexican Spanish 8 Reales and it was solid black when it popped out of the ground. And I mean solid black. I didn't even know what it was until I got home and cleaned it.

If it's not worth much should I might as well clean it? Lol

Please don't "die"...just go find some more. Congratulations!

If your gonna die, can you please send me that great coin first?? LOL.........

Silver coins that aren't key dates but I want to clean up some, I soak in lemon juice for a while. (2 hours roughly).

The gunk comes off quite nicely, and at most it takes a gentle rub.

I know the purists are cringing with this post (and I don't blame them), but that's what I do with my silver.

Very cool and a big Congrats!!!! :occasion14: It's all down hill now! :laughing7:

IMO
I'd leave it as is , as if it's in fine Condition & you can Clearly read Liberty On Ms. Liberty's Head Band ( The Retail goes into double Digits.) If indeed an O or micro O.

Please don't remove that patina. (On my Knees) But it's your coin sooo do with it as you wish.

So Davers since it's not a o would you still not clean it?

Please don't die on us. Do the Happy Dance until your legs cramp up but, you got more treasures to recover. I'd only clean it enough to get your mint mark. Black is beautiful. Congrats on your first of many I hope.

No Mint mark but great detail so it's in lemon juice as we speak
