I just got ownership in a racehorse. Am i nuts!?

No horse, but I have a cat name Tippy. No mice in my house.

He looks a tad thin, it shows in his haunches. My Uncle raised thoroughbreds for some number of years. I'd think your maybe overlooking a lot of upkeep and cost in your enthusiasm. If you really expect to race him, there will be considerable efforts and costs involved.

And he's entered for next Sunday so yes I do expect to race him 😀

Good luck with your race horse. Does the horse have a name? How about Tesoro!

Well the one that's racing this weekend is onesmokincat

I've had a few friends that owned horses or shares of horses and most lost money but one did make a little money through a few wins then finally selling the horse for a profit. I think when it was all said and done he actually made more money betting on that horse then owning it. Every one I know that owned a horse was a little crazy but that is all part of the fun. I hope you get to stand in the winners circle a few times with that horse and some extremely small man. Good luck.

When I married my wife 47 years ago, she owned one third share in a race horse with her two brothers. One brother hung around Charles Town WV Race Track a lot and some how came up with the horse. Think the horse ran 7 races and never even placed. The horse was traded in on a down payment for a used pick-up truck. My wife came away with no money. She only had a few hundred invested and never had to kick in for the food and up keep. Still it was fun following the race results. Never did get to see the horse actually race.

any paper work pedigree, history of linage ?,,,,, still a nice pony

I'm an old sore backed ex horseshoer, you've got yourself a money pit, and you'll be really lucky if you come out ahead. So yes, from experience, I think you are nuts, and I'm not someone that would want to own a horse, although at times I think a horse and buggy would be fun, but then reality hits, and I don't want another horse, my last horse died of old age, and the feed bill is better spent in other ways.

I wish you all the success in the world. And honest, I'm not trying to dissuade you, or be negative in any way. Keep us posted on the unfolding of your new venture, were all in your corner...!

Read about 'Dan Patch' then keep your fingers crossed...lol.

Again good luck

I've got 14 of them there things. Love them all. If you decide to ride, remember that if not most, then all race horses are hot and you better know how to ride when you saddle up. Good luck to you with your venture.

Isn't everything a write off in the racing business? got to lv it

Yes, your nutz BUT so are some of the greatest minds ever. Remember, however, there is a fine line between genius and insanity. My advice is, if you can, surround yourself with the right people and you will never go wrong and if it does, go with your gut. So, in closing, as the Hawaiians so " may your coconuts never hang lower than your grass skirt" and as this Alabama boy says "if they do, ditch the skirt" roll tide!
