I live in WNY should I bother looking around here ?

MD Dog,
I also live in the wny area. And I can tell you there are many fossils here.
As GoldGrubber said, there are a few spots in akron that yield some awesome fossils.
I only have a few pics up right now so i'll show you what I have.

I'm told this is "Rugose Coral", I picked this up off the ground. Sorry for the lack of scale, this specimen is about 2 1/4" at its widest. I sandblasted the limestone from it and clear coated it, thats why its so shiny.

Again, I apologize for the lack of scale. This is approx. a 5' x 3' section. I have no idea what fossils they are, but there sure are alot of them. Unfortunately, due to thier placement all you can do is look.

Once more with the no scale thing...
This is approx. 2' long.

I also have a large collection of pyritized(sp?) fossils, mostly mollusks but occasionally a nice ammonite(sp?). I'm told there are other types of pyritized fossils in that location, but I have to find any others. Sorry no pics of those up right now.

If your interested, I will gladly show you where they are at.
Just toss a pm my way, and we'll try to get together.

One of the greatest Devonian fossil deposits is in Hamburg NY. It is the Penn Dixie site. The Windom shale is loaded with Phacops, crinoids, blastoids, horn corals and much more. It is a pay site but it is well worth it. The yearly memberships are a bargain. Check out their site
