I got out for a couple of hours and found a few things. A modern quarter, a memorial, a trashed wheatie, and what might be a lock plate.

And on my way to the car I found the best find of the day. A 1860's civil war union token.

Fantastic recovery!

Multiple dies and obverses. Limited time frame during the civil war.
One mention of yours being an 1863.

From what I have read, they were made from 1861 to 1864. There is a 61 on one side. I am guessing for the year that they started stamping them.

Nice, nothing like finding the best last. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve found a good one in the first 5 minutes and nothing else the rest of the day. Good finds

I think the piece you called a lock plate is off of a scythe , look at the base of the lower handle of the American scythe in this pic.

That seems to be the way of it. 5 minutes of finds in a 5 hour hunt!! LOL

heavily calloused hands and full pouch are nothing more than a distant memory.
I still detect and I still find stuff but nothing like back in the early 80s in the heart of civil war territory. when you would often have to go back to the truck to empty the finds pouch.
I've had the same experience with making the find of the day in the first five minutes of the hunt and often in the first hole.
