To logchain. These items are plentiful here. The small chain in the first photo is a very common find. I've been searching for years to find the larger one. (size 12 shoe for scale). I knew there had to be one out there of that style and I finally found it at a place that was logged in 1891. It goes to show how easy it is to miss things. I've been digging this area at least once a year since 1972 and I missed both chains in all that time. They were at the most only under 1" of dirt and some of the larger chains links were showing above the ground. The 2nd photo, I had to dig through a root to free that chain.

Proving once again that it is never hunted out. That big chain looks pretty darn beefy, what does it weigh?

Oh yeah, congrats on finally getting that ton of iron ;D

Ya know eathabs, I bet I'm pretty darn close to that ton of iron that I've hauled home. The chain weighs 25 lbs, but wasn't difficult to bring out of the woods. Any time I find large chains I drag them. I dragged this one for a mile and half.

Wow! That is one big chain.

If you dig it, you have to drag it.

Iron chain. 1" under the dirt. Missed it. You using a Metal detector? ;D

Maybe your iron discrimination is set a LITTLE too high. :D
