I found this lead (update, it looks to be pewter) whatsit sometime last year, yesterday I was going though my find pile, and came across it. I thought it was a gear, but there is to much space between the teeth to be a gear anyway, any help would be great. Also, if there is a positive ID when do you think it is from.

Might be a spur rowel but looks a little odd for that

Too crude for any type of machinery. Probably decoration. What metal is it made of?

Could been used as a knob of some sort, my first impression is for a kerosene lamp.

What is the size, are you sure it's lead, could it maybe pewter.

I'm pretty sure that it is pewter because it does not have the classic lead patina, I just guessed lead based on the density of it. Also, it is around the size of a US half dollar, and around 2mm thick.

Also, I'm not sure if it from a kerosene lamp, but i'm not going to throw that possibility out of the picture just yet. I kind of think it may be a knob, and maybe oil/gas/kerosene related now.
