i put this 1914 (modified from 1911") penny on ebay why do they want it ?

I put this penny i found, on eBay. I started at .25 and now it's 4.75. Does anyone know why this penny is worth more than .01 other than it's slightly older?

In your title you put that its a 1911 but its a 1914. And I think the 1914 D must have been a good coin.

Mainly due to the fact that; when people get to bidding on ebay, they can get a little crazy. i.e., It's a coin, it's old, it's on ebay, so it must be worth something. :laughing9:

I made and sold Native American cedar flutes on ebay for a couple of years. I had a "Buy It Now" price of $100. I had two bidders that got into a "bidding war" on one of my flutes. One of them ended up buying it for $167. Go figure!! :headbang: :headbang: :laughing9:

I guess I better list some wheaties. I have about (have to count 'em,) 300 of them I'd like to get rid of. :laughing9:

The value of that penny to a collector in the condition it's in is about $3 to $6, so it is right in the ballpark of it's value.

Many people buy coins from the year they were born....your bidder is 96. Can you ship it fast? HAHA...

I'm confused ! (as usual :D)

1911 Modified into a 1914 ?

Don't know price today off hand.

2004 Redbook

Good Condition 1911 .25
good condition 1914 .50

What makes you think it is Modified ?
& why would anyone do it.
(Certainly the Mint didn't restamp dates in the 1900's )
& It's not rare enough to be counterfeited.

My opinion Persons Buying
Just don't know they are wasting their Money :tongue3:

Or You already know something I don't to be saying
it's Modified in the first Place.

As I say it's just a 1914 Wheat, Minted in 1914
which most Dealers may pay 4 cents tops for:tongue3:

Sorry.

Hi Jeff,

It was originally posted as a 1911, by accident. He returned to the forum and changed it to 1914.

Actually, "modified" doesn't translate well. :laughing9: :laughing9:

Right!! But I'll give my co-conspiritors a chance first. :laughing9:

If anyone is interested in buying a whole bunch of wheaties, (perhaps as many as 300,) my email address is in my profile.

I'll count them before any "deal" is finalized. Just write and let me know.
