A couple years ago I thought I found a small signal cannon and was pretty excited until it was revealed to be a wagon wheel skein. Well, here I go again! I was exploring the river banks in my kayak and saw something sticking out of the muddy bank. I worked it out of the mud and it looked so promising I could not leave it there. No trunnions but the back is solid and it flares at the "bore" with a pronounced lip. Most likely just a chunk of random iron pipe but who knows. It was found in an area that was heavily contested for several hundred years...

Let's hear from the experts!

wow, looks very interesting, I don't know anything about these things, would you use electrolysis to clean it up?

No expert but that looks very interesting, may just be something of note. Might just be the perspective of the 1st photo, but it appears to have a slight taper to it before it bells out at the mouth. A few good days of electrolysis might reveal any stampings or other marks which might help positively ID it.

How difficult was it to pull out of the bank?

Told you that kayak would pay off bud :-) I'm very curious to see if that is a cannon. If so that's a crazy cool find

Less than a third was visible so it took some work to get it out of the bank.

It is slightly tapered...

Let's hope you can find the rest of it, Nice find and possible safe, hh.

You asked for "experts", so I'll just watch.
Am thinking that no trunnions is a not-so-good sign ? how about bore size, does it match the 3" balls you got ?

Yep, definitely not a good sign without the trunnions...but it is heavily corroded...

I hope its not a pipe, that would be a bummer. good luck w/ it.

It has the look but not many of the known telltale signs we're used to

Hope it is for your sake, but if it isn't, the real deal will come your way

"does it match the 3" balls you got ?" LOL! If so, you got a nice set!
