I found it today detcting the old orange groves in southern california. it was only about 3 inches down. I thought it was an aluminum can because it was a solid 50cent signal and there are tons of old cans in the groves!! I am happy I dug this one up!!! I am not a huge fan of relic hunting but I have been detecing lots of fields and old orange groves lately. I never seem to find coins or rings when I relic hunt???? but I am starting to like it more now that I have found this old belt buckle!!!! It was also a good way to end the year!!!! If anyone understands what knights pythias is or what time period this is from let me know!!! this is waht I found on wikipedia- The Knights of Pythias is a fraternal organization and secret society[2] founded at Washington, DC, on 19 February 1864.

The Knights of Pythias was the first fraternal organization to receive a charter under an act of the United States Congress.[3] It was founded by Justus H. Rathbone, who had been inspired by a play by the Irish poet John Banim about the legend of Damon and Pythias. This legend illustrates the ideals of loyalty, honor and friendship that are central to the order.

The order has over two thousand lodges in the United States and around the world, with a total membership of over 50,000 in 2003. Some lodges meet in structures referred to as Pythian Castles.

The order's auxiliaries are the Pythian Sisters, the less serious Dramatic Order Knights of Khorassan, The Nomads of Avrudaka, and two youth organizations: the Pythian Sunshine Girls and the Junior Order, Knights of Pythias for boys.

A member must be at least 18 years of age. He cannot be a professional gambler, or involved with illegal drugs or alcohol and he must have a belief in a Supreme Being.

Degrees of Pythian Knighthood in the subordinate lodge (or Castle) are

Cool find! I found a KoP medal a few years ago. I had never heard of them until then.

That's a nice find, i have never seen these buckles before. :)

That's a cool buckle. The best I remember all the fraternal buckles I've seen have been the cast sabre belt plate style. From the construction of your I'm guessing it would date mid to late 1800's
