I Think I Got Hammered

I had two hours this morning so I went back to the 1/2 reale spot and dug some Colonial relics. I was swinging on the hike back to the truck and heard the sweet signal. I was thinking coke can but the signal got sweeter and coke cans usually are not that deep. Then I saw the cut silver and was excited. When I got to the truck I realized it might be hammered. I later realized it might be a Massachusetts Shilling! Is it hammer time?

Definitely looks like one of the Massachusetts coins!!

I wish I could tell you what kind of tree is on the other side but I know next to nothing about IDing them.

The good, you found a mass silver. The bad, its pretty rough. Mass silver was not hammered by the way. It was made in a press. Amazing find in any condition if you ask me

In my old coin book it looks like a 1652 oak tree coinage XII in the book it shows The M just below the X.

All of that 17th century stuff is so neat. The Mass silver is icing on the cake. I think I see a rat tail pewter spoon, saddle strap guide or leather decoration, and maybe a bridle rosette? Are the buttons 17th century? I can't see any details on those in the pictures.

'XII' well it's definitely a shilling, and that hole in it was made with a square nail, so it's definitely an oldie!
