I think its a button but what kind

I am thinking this is a button of some kind. Found it on a old farm where I find my CW bullets. I have also found some union buttons there, but never one like this. In rough condition but would like to know at least what it is. The letters on the bottom at STA, can't really tell what the top letters are. I'm thinking maybe a R*D but can tell. Any help would be appreciated.

Possibly Red Star Line ship uniform?

It looks very familiar but I cant place it or remember. I searched the Waterbury site for Red Star Waterbury Button - Uniform Buttons, Fashion Buttons, Metal Buttons, Brass Buttons. Collectibles - Civil War Buttons, Titanic, Blazer Button Sets. - Waterbury Button but nothing came up. It reminds me of the TOC overall buttons Work.Clothes.Overall.Buttons but I cant find it.

I believe it could be an overall. I am on a farm, plus it seems to have a front, back and just some regular iron slug like metal in the middle. So probably is but still cool. Thanks for all the input
