i think new jersey has been posting some of the best finds on here

I have to humbly agree too. Original 13 colonies. Makes my finds look like clad :laughing7:

I too would have to agree. I live in Jersey also. However, the Northern part (right outside of NYC). It is simply ASTOUNDING how much history is in Southern NJ. We have some here in the North, but, NOTHING like you guys down South. Amazing how 60 or 70 miles can make all the difference in terms of finds :tongue3:

P.S. - Most of the historical sites here are off limits :BangHead: Chances are, if it's old, you cannot hunt it :(

You have more up there, it's just your's is all paved over

Yeah, I know, that too. Thanks for reminding me :tongue3: :BangHead:

I have a regular group of hunting buddies that I go out with a LOT. We hit everything from parks to old sites dating back to the 1800's and everything in-between. Surprising how little is there. Most of the sites have been beat to death and we only squeeze the few meager finds remaining. Or, even worse, many sites we can't even hunt at all do to the laws/ordinances, it being modernized/filled or the old spot was developed into a commercial/residential area :crybaby2:

That's the great thing about Southern NJ. Chances are, if it's an old spot, it stays that way. Left untouched. If a hotel burned to the ground in the mid 1700's down there, the whole tract of land (and everything in the ground) is still there. If that happened up North, there'd be a 7-11 built on that spot within a year :spam4:

Maybe you Southern NJ'rs should consider detecting tours. With all of the amazing things you guys find down there, business would boom...and I'd be the first to sign-up :laughing7:

All I ever seem to find is junk. Unless you wanna count ticks, chiggers, and mosquitos.................lol.

Give it time and do the research! All of the finds on my site were found within 30 miles of where you live.

I hear what you guys are talking about all research and investigation I do ends in Dead Ends because of a Wal Mart or Home Depot. But you just got to think outside the box. I working on a project and found some revolutionary war artifacts

I usually don't post on threads that have been dead for 6 months but I want to add my two cents. South Jersey definately has more open space available for hunting but the history of Northern Jersey is definately on par. The only two full sets of GW Buttons found with detectors that I'm aware of came from Northern Jersey. (Someone from a different state was recently up to three if I remember correctly or maybe they found four but they were not all the same style) So the history and finds are there it is just a matter of finding them. I pulled a 1690s Spanish Cob out of Newark and it is almost impossible to find grass and dirt in Newark...lol.

We are all very luck to be detecting in NJ. Jersey native and proud of it.

NJ

I think our friends over in England get the best finds.
