I want to buy a new Tesoro Vaquero with??

I guess one could talk coils sizes and types all day, and don't get me wrong I too believe as others have mentioned the Best harmonized duo is 11x8 and the con 5.75 here but that 10" elliptical that comes with the Lobo perfect for a widescan...for me anyways for size and seperation 11x8 hmmm always great to have the bigger in non trashy sites...right, but for me if the Vaq had two options on a 3 coil pack for me I think I would have bought that option.

I will start a new thread on this to get this going.

It is a bit heavy...

Not sure I would agree about the 10.5 concentric doughnut coil. I found it to be noticeably heavy compared to the 8" concentric or even the 11 x 8 RSD, and I did not find that its depth was that much greater than the 8" to make the front heavy set up worth it. Then you must also consider that a concentric coil that large will have a pretty big detection field, which, unlike the larger DDs of the same size, will be more likely to mask good targets in the trashier sites. Maybe in more open, less trashy areas it might be better, but then it's weight is still going to be a problem, and it's not going to be long swinging in that open field before that weight is going to really be felt. JMHO.

I really don't like the 10-1/2" as much as I thought I would. Maybe it's better in less mineralized soil, but it wasn't noticeably deeper than the 8" and it was heavier to swing. I'll try it again in a park hunt and see how it does. Last hunt with it was in my local mountain sled run areas. It was OK, but my arm and neck sure felt the difference...

I understand the Shark models' 10.5 round are weighted for water, but I didnt think the older land 10.5 round concentric was abnormal. The Sharks use to be connectorized and people would use a Shark 10.5 on their land machine which obviously would be unbalanced.

Everything Ive read says people continue to search for the originals paying premium prices.

I do not have one, I cant say.

I got the 11x8 and love it. Soon will get the 5.75 concentric as said before. That should cover most hunting.

I was curious, I'm sure you have the right one. Some people are using the water 10.5 round.

I was going to order a 12x10 concentric but the 9x8 design ain't that great, I figure the 12x10 isn't that hot either compared to the old 10.5

I have the 11x8 and 5.75 both great coils. I don't use the 9x8 anymore.

Mine is supposedly the 10-1/2" donut land coil with the 3' cable. I got it in "as-new" condition from hihosilver, who recently bought it NOS. I'm sure it's not as heavy as the water version, but is heavier than the 8" donut. The weight wasn't unmanagable, but for it not seeming much deeper than my 8", I'd rather just use the 8".

I've never tried the 12x10 concentric (or Widescan), so can't comment on it.

As far as I know, there is no such thing as a 10.5" Doughnut coil for land machines, and if you are not getting more than you would get with the 8" concentric, then something is not right. If you are using it on a pre ground balance machine, it needs to be tuned, and unless it came off an older Tiger Shark, it may never work well on any of your machines. Call Tesoro and just back up what I'm saying.

Its listed in the Bandido manual Terry, they go for a high premium if one comes up for sale. Seems to be the thing to go after in Europe.

I asked Rusty to make some, he seemed to know what I was talking about.

it's an older, discontinued coil..

Used to be one... Take a look at the older Tesoro catalogs.
It was probably dropped from production for land units about the time Tesoro's current 12x10 concentric spider coil came out (just a guess). Could be something wrong with this one; I was expecting at least the same depth as the coil's diameter, and it was ground balanced as well as possible (minerals & hot rocks there), and sensitivity close to maxed. Could be that the minerals required the GB to be too positive for a concentric that big; don't know.

I like the open center in the 8 doughnut, but if the Mojave 7 Precision coil is so special, I'm wishing we see a 10 or 10.5 Precision coil....

edit: old Tesoro catalogs

click on "download" button, if you click on just the image all you'll get is the image

the green background catalog in second row has the old 10.5 concentric and new "spoke" coils

yep a 10" precision makes sense because it would be thinner and lighter I imagine. 3x10 elliptical would suffice just fine.
