You do realize it's illegal in most areas to dig in a cemetery, right? If not illegal, then most certainly questionable and distasteful...

Re: I was told there'd be cake!

yes i do know, but my grand parents don't know. besides you can't MD at parks, wait i forgot you can MD anywere!!!
because its all property!!! so don't call the fuzz.

Ummm, so because your grandparents don't know it's illegal to hunt in cemeteries, that makes it okay? And what do your grandaprents have to do with it, anyway? They aren't the ones holding the metal detector and the shovel. :tard:

If you get caught hunting in a cemetery, it gives a bad name to metal detectorists everywhere, so cut it out!

You can detect parks; public parks, not State parks, unless there is a law in your area that forbids it. If there is such a law, tough, but that doesn't mean you can go around digging anywhere you like.

Re: I was told there'd be cake!

Theres no gate there's no church it burned down 100 years ago, nobody cares about that cemetary there's no flowers the grass hasent been cute in years. the famalys of the dead don't care for there famaly anymore. the famalys are mostly dead. Its still alegal but we allmost own rock cave are famaly has been live there sense there were people, we were so close to byeing the area were the cematry is the guy that une it is an old grouch! a very mean person.
it's a public cemetary for history seekers and maybe MDests.

Wow. There are so many things wrong with this post.

Just because there's no gate and no church doesn't mean it's okay to dig holes in a cemetery.

Just because you assume nobody cares about the cemetery doesn't mean it's okay to dig holes there.

Just because your family almost bought a cave or an area near it doesn't make it okay to dig holes in a cemetery.

Just because it's a public cemetery doesen't make it okay to dig holes there.

It's not okay to dig holes in a cemetery, period! There are people buried there, in the ground, where you think it's perfectly fine to dig. This alone should be enough to keep you away. You will give a bad name to people who metal detect if you're caught there digging holes. The people on this forum metal detect, and we want to keep doing it. You need to read the posts on this site very carefully. You will not find anyone who supports digging up a cemetery.

What don't you understand about this?? :icon_scratch:

ahhh i dont want to ignore him. that post came off sounding a bit more harsh than i meant it to be. i guess i should have included this emotiocon. (). i actually took the original post down but it lives on in other peoples quotes. me and WVdrummer are cool, i apologised.

as far as the cemetary thing, yeah, its usually not a good idea to hunt around cemetaries and never a good idea to hunt on the graves. its just a respect thing.

And who said I was speaking for you, Lucky?

I'm sooooo very happy that you condone digging graves. By all means, go for it, have fun, if you have permission who cares, right? :tard:

But, if you'll please refer to earlier posts by Drummer, he doesn't have permission to hunt in this cemetery.

He assumes that no one cares about anything there, so he just digs with no respect whatsoever.

It's a common metal detecting courtesy that we stay away from cemeteries. If you want him to get busted, have his detector taken away, be levied a fine, his parents levied a fine, well......

But, the day he's out digging up a cemetery and the grumpy old man he referenced calls the local police, or a cruiser just happens by, well, let's hope someone spots the news story and posts it here for us to read. $20 says that you'll be in there right along with the rest of us admonishing him for giving treasure hunters a bad name.

Yes, brilliant, ignore good advice. Get mad at me because I'm trying to keep you out of trouble.

You're going to go a long way in the world, little buddy, with the kind of attitude you've presented here.

Re: I was told there'd be cake!

I'm not speaking out of any animosity towards drummer here, but from personal experience.

I grew up in a funeral home and, as a byproduct, in and around cemeteries as well. There's a reason a lot of cemeteries are closed after hours and that lots are well-lit and maintained. It's because people that have their loved ones buried there detest the thought of those loved-ones final resting places being desecrated by people that don't have an ounce of self-control.

Yes, the thought of hunting an old cemetery brings visions of large cents and seated silver and whatnot, but you have to have enough respect for the deceased not to go digging up their new "homes."

And here's some food for thought for you. You may think. "Well, cemeteries are public places, so detecting is legal there." Could not be more wrong.

Each plot in that cemetery was bought and paid for by the family members of the deceased. The non-burial areas can be owned by a number of different groups, but typically they are owned by a funeral home or mortuary, or another private organization. Sometimes, but rarely, will you find a cemetery that is owned by a city or town.

In drummer's situation, this is an older cemetery that is owned by, in his words, "an old grouch" that refused to sell the land to his family. Does it appear to anyone, except maybe Lucky, that he has permission to be here?

So, given all of this, do you still think it's perfectly acceptable to hunt a cemetery?

Re: I was told there'd be cake!

This thread is a HOOT..... :D :D :D I gotta give him credit for the videos outlay, but not the subject matter. Still, South Park goes farther...

On the detection in cemeteries, it is wrong to be seen digging in them as others would think of us a ghouls. It would give us a bad rep if anyone knew it was a cemetery. That said, in my newbie days I did hunt in one but then I thought about it. I even wrote a story for W&E Treasures about hunting cemeteries, but it wasn't bought for good reason. I didn't think much back then as a newbie. An ya gotta forgive me as that was back in the early 70's.
