Monday, I detected a creek with a good friend in an area a few miles from the Pea Ridge, Arkansas battlefield. among my goodies plucked from the creek, was a brass cylindrical item that "kinda" looked like a lipstick tube with a rock in it. It looked like no cartridge that I have ever seen, so I assumed it was nothing to brag about.

However, when I showed it to a another good friend and fellow detectorist who is very knowledgeable in American Civil War relics, he said that I have found a Gallagher .51 caliber carbine cartridge! To make it even better, it was intact, albeit damaged. Intact ones are rare, I learned. Well that made my day! I continue to learn from friends both here at home and on Treasurenet. Happy Hunting out there! Sub
