I went to a scout camp I have permission to detect. I detected for 4 and a half hours and found 82 coins for $6.91 in clad. I found the usual tabs and foil along with some neckerchief slides, pins, some bullets and two surprises. What looks like a braided hair large cent pretty badly toasted and a small flat button with “ORANGE” as the only part of the backmark that is still legible.

I have found a boat load of coins and other items the scouts have lost since the camp opened in 1980 but never anything this old. Before this the oldest coin was a 1907 Indian head that I was sure a scout must have brought to Camp and lost. I did find a campsite that was located at the site of the original farm and found some wheat pennies, mercury dimes and an SLQ. I guess it is possible the farm was older than I thought. Or maybe a scout brought them to camp years ago and acid soil toasted them.

I also found 24 tent pegs used during the summer. I leave them at camp so the staff can use them to set up the tents in the summer. I have been detecting here off and on since the summer of 2013 and have returned over 7,500 tent pegs. (It’s a big camp)

For some reason the phone pictures are upside down. Sorry for that, I’ll try and figure out how to fix that for next time.

Thanks for looking and good luck to all.

That sounds like a cool place to hunt. Good finds are everywhere, just have to get the coil over them. Congratulations!

7,500 tent pegs? Holy moly.....

Sounds like the scouts need a "Be-Sure-You-Pick-Up-Your-Tent-Pegs" badge :laughing7:

Nice find TNT-Hunter. To quote Squirrel322 - "...7,500 tent pegs? Holy moly..." :laughing7:

Nice finds. Congrats.. and welcome to treasurenet.

Nice finds. "Imperial Orange Gilt", "Rich Orange Colour" or "Warranted Orange" are a few quality marks that contain the word orange. Could be one of them to name a few. A pre 1850's button.

Nice finds. I like all of those Scouting items.

Thanks for the info diggummup.
