I found this old article while looking for something totally different but it's a pretty neat story.
"Trenton, MO.-May 21st 1927.
Buried treasure to the amount of $2800 in gold has been discovered on the farm of Mrs. Florence Gay, a widow, living NE of Jamesport. It was found by Perry Rader, who was plowing on the Gay farm several days ago. His plow striking a metallic object, he investigated and found an old kettle so rusty that it fell apart when he picked it up. Within the kettle he found many blackened pieces of gold. When and by whom the treasure was buried is not known, but it was assumed some member of the Gay family placed it there many years ago. Mrs. Gay claimed the money and it was turned over to her."

It makes me wonder how many more are out there still? It's just nice to know that folks in this part of the country had that kind of money back then.
