id help for 1612 coin

Re: id help for 1612 coin photos attached

Came across this in an estate sale box of unmarked world coins. Saw some similarly marked coins used in Austria from about the same time frame, but not an exact match. For example some of the script has extra letters AVG (instead of AV) and SE (instead of SEM) and such. Even the image of Rudolfo II appears unique / different.

The coin is uneven and not perfectly round and the stamping is not centered exactly. Wonder if this is the norm for this period coin. Any help with information is appreciated. A link to other resources would be nice too.

Who would be good resources for certification and to get an estimate of value?... Thanks in advance.

Hi aarchie

A super coin in an extraordinary quality !!! :o

1 Thaler of the King and Emperor Rudolph 2.

Look here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudolf_II,_Holy_Roman_Emperor

The coin is minted in the year of his death.

Both of these caracteristics are normal.
New (other) matrice makers had to get space for all those letters, so the coins got different from mint master to mint master.
An expert on these coins could probably tell you the name and the city of the mint master just by looking at the combination of letters and so !!

awesome coin!!! :o
do you know what it is worth?

Thanks agersea for the great info. Anyone know a reliable source or expert for authentification / grading / value? aarchie
