Hello fellow TNers,
I've kept this thing around for awhile, I think only, to find out what it is. My best guess is some kind of marine coral or something. I found it in a pile of fresh lime stone gravel. The ruler in the pic is for the bottom pics only. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks....nappy

Grewingkia. It is a cone shaped fossil from the Upper Ordovician period. Widespread in North America. It had no method of attachment . Its heavy cup probably sank into the mud, and new mud then settled around the cup, with luck, at the same rate at which the cup grew upward. quoted from National Audubon Society field guide.
