✅ SOLVED ID help please

Hello everyone. I am following a street tear out and have been able to detect some very small areas of the old road. Yesterday I dug this Button? / rosette?...
The front has a small dot pattern behind the US. The reverse has a single mark in the center missing whatever used to be on there.
IT has obvious damage like a lawn mower blade cut possibly.
I was hoping for some help ID ing it.
One very close design I did find was for a Brass medallion for a scabard. The only problem is it is not nearly as thick as the medallion.

I think Charlie is right on, except according to the site below the example shown is from just after WWI, where yours matches the ones that are from WWI.
