Hello Forum,

I was wondering if anyone can help me identify this object that I found in a park in Upstate, NY. It has petina, and is very thin. Please see pics (front and back view).

If this is a rivet, could it be a very old one? I found an early 1800's Flat Button in the same park. Any ideas on where I should go to have it identified?

Not likely a rivet. Too big, IMO. It looks like brass.

It appears to have pry marks on the edge.

My first thought was "freeze plug" from an old engine. But I've never seen one with a protrusion like that.

On a side profile is the small round part the same size all the way down until it connects with the large piece?I was thinking some type of plug.

& Buttons if Not for the Stem.

Making this post Just to Keep an Eye for an I.D. too :laughing7:

Thanks everyone for all of the input. I visited a local tack shop, and they did not positively ID it as equestrian related. That said they didn't rule it out either. Please see attached a side view. Side View.webp

I think Mud Hut is on the right track, but rather than being the battery itself, I think it is a contact from inside an old flashlight that would have taken D cell batteries. It has a definite rim around the perimeter, and the nipple looks to be a bit concave, which would have been caused by battery contact fatigue. The rim is probably a spring seat where the coil spring was seated.

Maybe those are not pry marks but places where a hinge and catch were attached?

Pocket ashtray lid?

back-of-the-boat... The center shank is the same diameter all the way down.

Top of a shotgun shell with the primer still attached. I've found a few like that.

That would be a mighty big shotgun shell, wouldn't it?
