I am looking into buying a Garrett pin-pointer and here is my idea to waterproof it I have seen in the electronic parts store heat shrink as large as 2" id. I would place a rubber cap on top and bottom put small bead of silicon caulk around the side of the caps then slide the shrink wrap over the caps and shrink it. You should be able to turn off and on only problem is to change batteries you would have to remove and replace the shrink wrap.

I just put mine in a large zip lock bag. I would not alter it in a way that would vacate the warranty.

The back of the pinpointer has a oring so no need for a seal there. As the only place that would actually need a seal is the speaker and eventually the power button but even this last one is pretty much waterproof

I saw aquachigger's in his vids and it looked like he dipped it into a vat of quick drying snot... or maybe it was clear silicone :)

He can afford to void his warranty with all that good stuff he's finding.

Wonder if a seal a meal bag would work?

That's what I use and it works perfectly. I put on 2 layers just in case there is a leak in one. f7a0a54c92471ac4480e727e4ccf93df_XL.webp

I put electrical tape over the speaker to quiet it down some and to keep the dirt out of it. Wasn't trying to make it waterproof, but it is water RESISTANT.
My best mod to the GPP was to dip the probe three times into Plati-Dip.
This makes the tip last longer and also is easier to find when dropped!

I dipped my Pro Pointer in yellow Plasti-Dip. The bag idea will work in water, but not in dirt or sand for very long. Just get a can of Plasti-Dip at Ace Hardware and dip it a couple of times to get an nice coating and you won't have to worry about the pointer wearing out, plus the bright color that I chose helps to find it if it falls out of the bag or I lay it down and forget to pick it up after a dig.

I did the plasti dip thing, works very well. As far as water, just get quick drying RV silicone, the clear kind and put a dab on the light and some around the button. The stuff can be pocked off of you have a warranty issue. The speaker hole I have cover with gorilla tape because I use a little radio expanding antenna to do the "gain sensitivity trick". The tape holds the antenna, covers the speaker hole and makes it quieter. Don't doubt the sensitivity trick either I can find stuff up to 4" away of I've dug a big hole for relics etc. My 2 cents.

I think the ones who dought that sensitivity trick don't know how to do it, I to have gotten around 4" aswell & there r times when its totally for the good of the coin in the hole

I have been looking at the scraps of heat shrink material they use at the marina to shrink-wrap boats its pretty tough stuff.

I have a food vacuum machine that removes all air. I just seal it up and it's good for several months......until I have to change out the batteries.

Go with a plastic baggy. I use them for my cellphone too. I'm in vietnam and ride a motorcycle everyday, and the rainy season is here now.

Can someone explain the antenna mod to me? Would be much appreciated.

Go with a long handle sand scoop! No need for making a pinpointer waterproof!

:laughing7: I don't care who you are, that's just plain funny.

Has anyone tried this? Flex Seal 14028913.webp
