Hello all,,,
Yesterday would almost make me start believing in luck. My ol'lady and I went out to Walmart to get a few more Christmas gifts out of layaway when I see a penny on the sidewalk facing heads up. I pick it up, as I can't seem to walk by one these days without doing so, and I stick it in my pocket. After getting home, I 'm sitting at the computer when I get an "IM" from my friend Gary wanting to know if I'm going to get out, or not. I told him it was a little too cold for me, and my back was still a little out of whack from me staining it the other day. A few more minutes of chitchat and he finally talks me into to going to one of our smaller parks here in town. He about had to brake my arm to get me to go...
After getting to the park he hadn't arrived yet, so I hit around the swings and the jungle gym and manage to find (37) cents before he gets there. After he finally shows up, lol, he was only few minutes late, we started getting into some serious hunting in the grassy areas of the park. It wasn't long before I get a strong nickel signal on the Cz at only a few inches deep so I cut a small plug and just below the surface I see a nice silver? colored necklace shinning in the sunlight. I thought, that's weird a silver necklace giving me a nickel signal, so I grab my magnifying glass to take a closer look and see it's marked "14k".
I was thrilled, as it was the first piece of white gold I had ever found and, it was probably my most valuable, (money wise), find to date. It measures (24" in length x 1/4" wide x about 3/32" thick) and weighs in at (19) grams. (After retrieving it from the dirt and laying it on the ground I decided to recheck it with the Cz and this time it was reading a solid 'Foil" signal.)

I had to stroll over to where Gary was hunting to let him check it out, ( show it off
), and he goes through the usual routine of calling me a "Lucky Ducky", and says, "Well, you going to thank me now?, or thank me later?". I had to think for a second, then I thanked him for dragging me out into the cold.
After this, I was digging just about any signal that I could pinpoint on and, I dig another foil signal which turned out to be just that, foil from a shredded pop can, but I did see my first marble find I had made in quite sometime. A few minutes later I get a good solid high-tone at 7" down. It was an 1890 IH. Just after that I get another signal that sounded exactly the same, but it turned out to be a 1918/D Mercury Dime. By now, I was starting to feel a little guilty finding all the goodies, as Gary hadn't found anything except clad and he was the one that actually wanted to get out. I ended up finding another Merc (1917/S), another IH (1901), and two wheat cents, (1931, and a 1921).

As our hunt comes to an end, as it was getting late and our toes were getting cold, I thanked Gary again for forcing me to get out and hunt.
I'm not sure how much the penny I had found at Walmart had to do with this hunt, but I was surely the only one with any luck for the day. Gary ended the day with a pretty good pile of clad, but no real keepers,,, So, I'm calling the moral of this story, " If you see a penny, facing heads up, pick it up", ya just never know...
Hope you've all had some luck and Happy hunting~,,, Leon...
