What the heck is it???
It is definately a artifact, but what? Found at a camp, very strange stone, i have never seen before. The end of the rounded part is polished, but the camera wouldnt take it. I seriously doubt its a mano............. so :icon_scratch:

looks like it came from outerspace, love it what ever it is jamey

looks like a broken piece of fossilized, petrified wood to me, just my opinion.

ya it does look like petrified wood, but the end has been polished due to use as somethink.

Looks petrified on the outside but the inside doesn't look like it to me, wierd!

i think i will agree with you on that, some sort of strange pestle type tool. kinda strange how the end did not wear evenly tho, but ya that was my thoughts, thanks

Its natural, just weathered. Use as a pestle, would have shown much more even ware on the use end.

Very intresting piece though.

it was used at one point as something or another, the area is very remote and the only stones found laying around is flint, fire cracked rock, mano/metate frags, all brought in.

I can't tell for sure what the material is, but I'm not seeing a wear pattern consistent with use as a tool. Where's the other part of it? That may be the business end. Considering the context you tell us it was found in, it possibly had some every day use or maybe even religious significance. Then again, everybody might have just thought it was a cool rock, and kept it around in case they wanted to do something with it one day.

If it was fossilized bone, it would look just like the end of a rib bone.

Hopefully the winds this year will pick up and cause some sand to shift, hopefully the other half is in the area. lol, i have never been wanting wind before ;D

i thought that, but the entire stone has been exposed for some time, and the pilish is on the 1st two inches of the stone
