Was out of town this weekend so I could not attend the group hunt. Looks like it was a great time had by all. Decided to hunt a rural Illinois fairgrounds that was in driving distance of where I was out of town at. I had secured permission to hunt it from the fair association a few years ago but never got around to hunting there.
The site has been a fairgrounds for over 100 years and is still in use. I know it has been hunted alot since the early 1970s but figured there was still some goodies left under the modern trash layer of pull tabs, foil and bottle caps that the Etrac could sniff out.
Arrived to find that the grass was high and thick in alot of places. Did find some spots where the grass was shorter and had some luck there. I will have to go back in the spring when the grass is shorter and I think I will try using my smaller coil since it was as trashy as I expected.
Finds for about 5 hours of hunting included 2 Mercs (1918 and 1945) 7 Indians (1873, 1891, 1899(X2), 1903(X2) and 1907. Also got 14 wheaties.
