IL Forum April 1st "Field of Fools" Hunt....

I am setting up a Group hunt in some area fields...Somewhere around Newton,IL is the area we will be hunting


UPDATE

Three Day Hunt....Fri/Sat/Sun April 1st 2nd and 3rd

Alternate date is April 7th 8th and 9th if the ground is still froze

You may also stay longer if you wish,I will also be hunting Monday and Tuesday........just let me know if you would like to join me so I may plan ahead..


I recommend Olney for hotels...
some links to the local hotels....I see super 8 has a group rate,I expect the others would have as well...

I will be providing most of your meals...I like ribs,chowder and fried fish...so if you want something special let me know....

Locations we will possibly be hunting:

Several farm fields,all sites of former homesteads some dating back to the 1830-1840's
Obtaining permission for a Ghost Town...
Possible night hunt at the local parks...

Thinking about setting up a Group hunt in some Springfield area fields...Somewhere around Athens,IL is the area I am considering.
Good halfway point for all....
Thinking March/April time frame
Two Day Hunt....Sat/Sun
Just curious who might be interested before I put in alot of time and research...
Figuring 10-15 people max (hunters) this will depend solely on the number of hunting sites obtained...

Locations?
All suggestions Welcome...

Mr Senior...Nothing real specific yet...Have done some preliminary research..but need to see some interest before going futher...
If we can get atleast 4 total..I will set it up...
The time will be decided by the group....figuring on pairing up 3-4 to a site...
Temps...as long as the ground is not frozen,we dig
Date,will have to see what works for most...

I'd love to attend if the date period works for me, occasionally I have to be out of town for work on weekends. Unlike others, I am fine irrespective of the temps, just so long as the ground is dig-able and not so wet that I loose a foot in the mud.

Hey Soup, I have 2 weeks of vacation in mid April, so I'm VERY interested. Hopefully, my E-Trac will be here by then. Also depends on how much $$ I have for gas, food, and hotel.....keep me in mind please, thanks!!

Friend in tow is good to go etrac...

Two other sites may be available with the further south hunt...an old grist mill on the river,and the site of a counterfeiting enterprise...I will start the process of obtaining permission for these sites if there is no objections to the change of venue....

Lookn4Seated checking in. Both dates work for me as I'm off weekends. I would carpool with dad, MRSenior and PTDetector which would work out great. Thanks for setting this up. I've always wanted to hunt down South. Lookin' forward to meeting you. You seem like a very knowledgeable and gracious individual from your posts. You're always welcome to hunt up North with me.

Thanks for the open invite, Soupie. I'm in. Any of the dates are good for me. Sounds like you have/will/hopefully will have obtained some great sites. That is one style of hunting I have yet to do. Looking forward to meeting you as well as any other detectorists I have yet to meet!

Any of those weekends work well for me - lets hope for thawed ground and decent weather! The counterfitting site sounds interesting. Any idea what they counterfitted? Love Tokens? Thanks for setting it up!
