They make covers for just about any detector so hunting the rain really isn't an issue anymore. Now if you need it to be a water machine, that's a different story. There are only a few that have a target ID and are waterproof.

Tesoro Tiger Shark under $650 and can use in water up to 200' deep. I just got one.

I purchased the at pro a month ago an love the machine dnt know too much other detectors but this thing is amazing

Been using the Surfmaster PI for 10 years. Have found everything from boat anchors over 2' down to diamond rings at 10" with a lot of coin finds throughn in. You can probably find a good one used in the classifieds here or E Bay for a very reasonable price. Frank

I'd like to pick up a detector I can use in inclimate weather & beach (fresh water). I know the most popular suggestion would be the At Pro. I'm thinking Whites Beach Hunter 300 but open to other US made detectors.
How is the BH300 as a coin hunter on land?
There are much better choices for a land machine. If you want a meter, the Tiger Shark is not for you either. Both are good machines but more targeted for water use than land. The At Gold would be a better choice for land and water if you want a meter. Also the higher end detectors like the Minelab CTX 3030 have those features too.
