I'm pretty sure this is my First Key Date 1869/9 IH Penny!

Went out for a few hours to a new permission with Deadsy. We've done some serious research and the place dates back to around 1820. We found a bunch of relics but nothing other than a suspended clip to write home about. In this general area within a mile or two we have had wonderful luck and have been very grateful of the sweet finds! As we started digging garbage the signals started opening up. I got a great mid tone peaking to lower high tone near some iron clear and consistent while using the 5x8 on the At pro. Dug down about 6-7" and behold a 1869/9! You can still kinda make out LIBERTY! The top left of the 9 you can see has been re punched and u can also tell on the bottom tail of the 9!!! I did the best I could lining up my iPhone with my loupe! Boy am I pumped!!!! Thanks for reading fellas and ladies!!! Good luck out there!

I am sorry but I can't tell with those pics! If it is in fact the 1869/69 Variety, it is a Breen-1977/Snow-3 and is actually a re-punched date. Try taking some pics holding a quality magnifying glass or lens of a gem loupe in front of your camera's lens when taking closeups of coins. This usually aids in better in-focus and non-distorted pics but it takes some practice and trial and error to get it right.

Congrats on that IHP. The 9 does appear to be thicker on top and the bottom. Fingers crossed... Even if it isn't the 9/9 it's still a great find.

Thanks Loco yeah it's very easy to see in person pics r kinda hard

That IHP regardless of if its an over punch will clean up real nice. To me I'm thinking I see the tail of the nine under but it's difficult to make out for sure. I hope it is!!

Yeah Scrap tail under and I could see the outline over and the fatness of the top of the head...in person u could actually see where it overlaps

Looks like a nice one regardless, I'm having a hard time seeing it too

You can see it real good if u zoom in on the 8th pic and u could see the line on the top of the 9 that separates the punch from the re punch

I think u hit it....schweeeeet !!!

My brother found one of those a couple years ago! Good Find. Hogge

Congrats on a sweet find.
I have never found a double die error coin.
Not digging or in circulation. That 69/69 is a $ 700 (plus) coin if it grades EF40 w/out an environmentally damaged designation. Beautiful save

NICE...just stop calling a cent a penny.:laughing7:

GOD Bless

Chris

Thanks guys yeah I'm excited about this one...I'm def hittin that site this morning!

I am hoping for you that it is the 1869/69 Variety but I just can't see it! I will try copying a couple of the pics to my' PC, then over to Photobucket to play around with them to see if I can get the details of the Re-Punched Date to show up. If so, then I will post a pic back on here. I found this Variety many years ago when I was just starting to get serious with searching, researching, collecting and cherrypicking Errors and Varieties. My' find was a Late Die State coin that had very little left of the first punched Date and not being very knowledgeable and experienced on Die States, a Dealer pretty much cheated out of the coin. I cringe at the thought of how many Key Date and very valuable Error and Variety coins I sold back then and got cheated because I lacked the knowledge and experience!

thanks Frank...in the meantime ill PM you some and see what i could do for better pics

I am sorry to say that I can't get anymore definition by editing and resizing the pics! It is hard to make good assessments of coins when comparing pics due to wear, corrosion or damage but I compared the pics of your' coin to a genuine Variety to match the Die Markers and it doesn't quite seem to match the Die Markers for a genuine 1869/69 IHC or the 1869 18/18 or the 1869/1869 Varieties. I could be wrong and even though it doesn't seem to match, that does not mean that your' coin doesn't have a Repunched Date, it just means that it doesn't seem to match any of the one's noted above! Considering that there are 3 Varieties of Repunched Dates for the 1869 Indian Cents, there is always a possibility that more Varieties exist.

If you can take pictures of the Date from many different angles and post them here or PM them to me, I will continue to analyze them in hopes that you do have an actual Repunched Date Variety. I am really hoping that it is and if it is a new Variety, then the better for you!
