In a Quandary

Few more pics from down around Quandary Peak last week. High and wild country, but accessible to even the KIA drivers. I saw a lot of things going on in the architecture of that old building and had some questions about it. I have great respect for razor wire and some respect for posted signs, which they had a 'No Trespassing' sign up so I didn't get closer to examine the construction. I won't vouch for the whole thing bein from the gold rush days but still cool building.

nice pics rg. The cabin looks pretty elaborate for a miner's cabin. Maybe a mercantile or regular homestead?? You gotta tresspass and figure it out rg. Just do it!

Thinkin along the same lines, packerbacker. There is a large mine across the gulch. And miner's cabins generally were about 12 by 15. Easier to heat, and could sleep twelve comforta---well twelve or more would sleep in there. The thing that actually caught my eye was the size of the windows. They didn't have windows that big in residences due to the heat loss. In the center portion of the structure, note the beam that extends out from the top of the roof above what one might mistake to be a window. In my experience a rope and pulley would be attached to that and used to haul up hay bales, although there's not much good pastureland in the immediate area. In my w.a.g. the center section is original and the rest is later year add-ons. It does have an old outhouse which appears period to the time. I still respect the keep out signs. In this part of the country we've had a lot of things vandalized or totally destroyed by folks who had no permission to be where they were. Nothing lasts for ever but at least let it stand for however long it will and fall into natural decay. And I spose I could just go ask the neighbors about it, which I eventually will, but sometimes it's fun to speculate and try to cypher things out.

You might want to check out the history of the place. There might have been an old town at the site, and that old cabin might have been an old saloon or store. Thanks For Sharing!
