I have a little story for today, I got my Bug for metal detecting from My dad. He started metal detecting back in the late 60's when detectors were first getting popular.. Pretty crude machines but I remember as a little boy Going out with him, My mom , and brothers to search for treasure. He even had a couple dredges and he went for gold all the time. My Mom always absolutely loved going with my Dad treasure hunting, Metal detecting and Gold panning.

My Dad Passed away 2 days ago and it has been tough on everyone as anybody would expect. My Mom has been taking it pretty hard since she has been with my Dad for almost 50 years. So today I went and picked her up for a little surprise to break up the seriousness of what has been going on, Told her to get in the Car and we went to a local park to do some detecting. She was just instantly super excited and starting talking about all the detecting stories she had with my dad. We both had a blast remembering Dad and waiting to see what popped next out of the ground. We detected for a good 3.5 to 4 hrs before I took her to lunch. My mom was so happy for such a horrible time, It almost seemed like my Dad was there! So anyways just a super time today detecting and I am so glad My dad passed his interests on to my family and myself. Love you DAD!!

Here are the finds. A silver turquoise Heart Ring (fits my mom and she had it on for the rest of the day Here keep sake for our memories!), A old Chinese Coin, a old Token "good for amusement only" and a old knob or decoration with a ribbon on the design. Oh yea almost for got a Memorial penny that has been rolled with a bead around the edge and the usual bunch of clad.

My deepest condolences to you and your family.

What a great story - thanks so much for posting that! I've only taken my dad detecting once, and that was over 15 years ago. He's in his 80s now, but in excellent health and condition so you've given me a great idea. And I think you know what that is.

Great story bud I'm sorry for your loss your dad must have found a lot of good stuff sounds like he's been in this awesome hobby for a long time as you carry on this hobby that would make him very happy congrats on your finds bud and be strong for you and your family...

So sorry for your family's loss of your Dad. Such a loving family as shown by your wonderful idea of taking your Mom detecting, and the beautiful heart you two found.

After many hard times and much hard work in their earlier years, my Mom & Dad were fortunate to live in fairly good health to be 90 years old. They had always loved exploring outdoors, introducing us children to camping, nature and adventure, which we daughters passed on also to our children and grand-kids. In their sixties & seventies, our parents became very involved in rock-hounding with a club in Virginia where they lived, which also led to their traveling in their old RV to Colorado and Arizona, then making silver, beaded, and gemstone jewelry at home. They got some of us younger generations interested and involved in minerals, rock-hounding and jewelry-making too. Nothing professional, but lots of fun. Two years ago my son and I clued in the rest of the family that we planned to put on a family display at our California rock club's wonderful annual rock & gem fair. Other family members e-mailed us photos of Mom & Dad rock-hounding years ago & of lots of the jewelry they'd made. Next my son and I added to the display photos of the younger generations, plus many raw minerals and finished jewelry made by us all. We called our wonderful display, "Four Generations". Many people who came to the fair enjoyed learning this colorful history. Lots of enjoyment for us also, and happiness from honoring those beloved two adventurers who started the whole thing!

Hugs to you and yours! Andi

So sorry for your loss. From the story you posted your dad seemed like a wonderful guy and a great family man.

Sorry for your loss. Your dad left your mom in good hands, he would be proud of you.

Very sorry to hear about your dad, but that's an incredibly great story and I hope you are all doing as well or better than should be expected

A heart ring for Mom for Valentine's Day. My Mom and Dad always took us hunting for Indian relics, and my sister and I do it to this day. My Dad especially is always on my mind when we are walking the fields. He and I went together so many times after my Mom passed. Now I am in my 70's and am taking my grand niece detecting with me. I hope on day she remembers me in the same way.
