Planet..I don't think you could go wrong with the Ace 250. If fact, you can pick them up for around $212...I think the pro might add a few little accessories but no difference on the actual detector. Whatever machine you get, just remember, have fun.

Thanks my arm is twisting the other thing i really do think it can help my daughter get into history more i learn that some indians in michigan where cannanibal and 1812 michigan was a big part of the war along with cannada ohio indiana newyork

The Pro package includes a 9x12 coil in addition to the stock coil. My advice would buy the 250 detector only. Then buy the 4.5 inch sniper coil.

whats the sniper coil?

It's the 4.5 inch small coil for the Ace 150 and 250. It goes deep and separates the trash from the treasure in trashy sites. www.garrett.com

I have the Ace250 with the Pro package that I bought last year. While it is a good machine it's really not what I want and need for my area. I just bought a Tesoro Silver uMax which didn't cost much more than the Ace250 did..... like $26.00 more. The Tesoro comes with a lifetime warrenty which you can't beat. The Tesoro Silver uMax with the stock coil is supposed to be a much deeper machine than the Ace250 with the 9x12 coil. I don't care too much for the 9x12 coil. I might be able to get an inch deeper with the larger coil, but it's not a big enough difference that you notice and I sure wouldn't buy another one. It makes the machine quite a bit heavier so it will wear you out quicker. All in all the Ace250 is a good machine, but it's not suited for what we search. Most of the places we search are full of nails since we search alot of old house places for Civil War campsites and battlesites. No matter what I do the Ace250 will still pick the nails up and chirp from low to high. It will seriously ruin a hunt. I can take it to the parks and clean up on coins. I didn't buy it for coins in the park though.... I bought it for searching CW relics and old house places.

I would suggest researching more machines before you buy. If I had done this last year I wouldn't be buying a new machine now. Ask questions and read lots of reviews. Also talk to some MDer's in your area and ask lots of questions. I didn't have this luxery, but it will help if you do. Find out what they use, what the ground is like, etc. You will be able to make a better informed choice and it will put you ahead of the game.
