To me it almost looks like a pestle. There's another name for one that's used to grind corn but this one looks to maybe be one used by a shaman for mixing and grinding medicine.? :-\ ???

I agree with Stoney. The ones for corn (corn mills?) were larger, and often made from a hollowed out log. This definately seems like its for something they needed small batches of, like medicine. Nice find!

It could even be stone age, 20,000 years, a friend of mine has a few cups and a mortor that dates to 5000 BC. They look similar to yours. Any local museums in the area that could help ID and date it? Curious where you found it? HH, Mike

Hey Dano, nice find, can you throw a quarter or something into the picture for a scale? I have many artifacts and haven't seen one like your's. Do you mind if I ask where you picked it up? Knowing the area could really help ID it.

It's only an 1 1/4" across, it was a sight find near a very old RR track building that had some recent excavation

I agree with El Senor de La Mancha (he tilts windmills)

It is a pressure stone for a bow drill. Used to start fires and drill holes. It goes on top of the shaft that gets spun with the bow.

Real neat find and definately real old as well. I was thinking that it was used to grind something as well
