Info on this button please

Dug this today at a pounded civil war site. Also got 5 bullets and a henry cartridge. I have never dug a button like this any info on age and what troops if any may have worn this button. Says imperial standard on the back and Exe---or or somthing like that under the eagle.

New york militia 1 piece with rope edging..(Excelsior ) buttton dates to around 1808 to 1820 nice find..
 
Thanks. must have been lost by a civil war solder. Found it where there was a small skirmish.

Its older then civil war.Try and search google for it ,i found it in my book..Goodluck
 
Hi Jason, Found 1 of these a few days ago and posted it. The back of mine is different from yours. You can look at it on the second page of todays finds. NICE find! HOGGE
 
Those buttons can be worth some good money ..You need to try and soak it or clean it, but be careful dont scratch at it..relicdude
 
war of 1812 era "chicken neck" type button --it was a a very very old button if lost during the civil war -- (40 to 45 years after its issue --in 1820* up to as much as 57 years old if it was issued in 1808 *)--- confederates used any buttons they could find esp later on in the war --
 
Thanks Ivan. This button was found in a area where both confederate and union troops were located at one time or another. Could have been some ones son wearing there fathers jacket of to war I would guess.
