Back to rummaging through my grammys old stuff from the attic... but I'll be out detecting soon now that spring is here. I'm not much of a coin guy yet, but I'm learning... and these should help: 1916-1947 liberty halves, 1878-1934 silver dollars, 15-cent bill, 1859 gold dollar, bunch of liberty pennies?, 1920 pilgrim half, 1925 patriot half, 1893 Columbus halves... this is about one quarter of the contents... I'll post more as time allows. There are some really old ones too (as far as US coins go)... they're quite worn and didn't photograph well. 1783? Auctori Connec, 1796 large cent, and more.

Grandma has a heck of a collection.....and you never had to leave the house and get wet or snowed on to find them.....If you like I will pay green money for them..........But I would say they have been in the family of some time ......So thanks for sharing them with us!!!!!!!!Nice collection... 8) 8) 8)

Thanks for the kind words. I forgot to mention, the little gold coin in the 4th photo is an 1859 $1 coin (too bad about the hole in it). The little octagonal thing is an 1872 "Califonia charm". Does anyone know anything about the 15-cent bill? I can't find info on it (yet). Thanks. -Ben

N,

very nice.

Plan on keeping it in the family?

The old ones would just put things away, not
really planning on it being a collection.

Again, very nice.

have a good un..........

Cyn, that's a 1920 half-dollar commemorating the pilgrims.

Wow, great collection of coins! Its especially nice to see large cents in undug condition. By the way, in the fourth picture, what kind of coin is that in the upper right corner and what is the denomination of that early Capped Bust silver coin in the lower left?

Fractional currency is what you 15 cent bill is called. The 15 cent was minted in July of 1869 thru. Feb. 1875. They started printing Fractional currency in 1862 due to the shortage of coins. People started using stamps for change. The post office did not like this practice and would not give refunds for tore or soiled stamps. Congress and Pres. Lincoln authorized the printing of these in July of 1862. The 15 cent was printed in the 4th issue. I hope this helps.

Nice inheritance, you got all the things we are looking for in one shot, LOL! HH, Mike

WOW! :o What a beautiful collection your grandmother had. Everything is in great conditon except for the bill, in my opinion. Congratulations!

nice -- to bad my gramps collected stamps -- think coins are a much better thing to collect :) --- Congrats !!

Bookfisher, in the 4th photo: lower left is an 1835 5-cent (dang small for a nickle!) The upper right is an 1874 3-cent piece. Heres the Indian head and wheat pennies, dating from 1862-1935.
