Back to rummaging through my grammys old stuff from the attic... but I'll be out detecting soon now that spring is here. I'm not much of a coin guy yet, but I'm learning... and these should help: 1916-1947 liberty halves, 1878-1934 silver dollars, 15-cent bill, 1859 gold dollar, bunch of liberty pennies?, 1920 pilgrim half, 1925 patriot half, 1893 Columbus halves... this is about one quarter of the contents... I'll post more as time allows. There are some really old ones too (as far as US coins go)... they're quite worn and didn't photograph well. 1783? Auctori Connec, 1796 large cent, and more.

That is a mega nice collection.Congrats!

Super find. Did you know the box existed? I'm asking because I am planning a visit to Granny's attic and basement. The house was built in 1927. Thanks for sharing your story and pictures. Mike F.

Wow, what a wonderful grandmother. That is also what I am doing with my coins I dig, I have them set aside for my grandson but I don't have anything like that. I hope you were very kind to granny while she was alive. :)

wow! that 1783 coin that says "auctori connec" is a Connecticut copper! auctori connec is Latin for "by the authority of Connecticut". its an awesome coin to have in your collection! so are all the others!! you're a lucky man!!..............could that 1783 be a 1788? which direction is the man on the obverse of the coin sitting in left or right. the right bust variety is rare. here is one i found this winter. it is super beat up but does it look anything like yours?

To answer the question posed by Mike F., I did know there was a collection of of coins, but had never seen it... nor had my mum. I'm trying to find to find the collection of stamps, but I have to toss too many of these dumb old iron piggie-bank things out of the way... it gets tiresome. (ok, I'm kidding about that), but there is a stamp collection too. :) -Ben

man those are awesome! it looks like your conn copper has a left facing bust! when i get home from work today i will try to find a link to a really cool colonial coin site. you have a great collection!

Amazing, Ben. I hope the thrill (of detecting) isn't gone after aquiring all of these great coins. What a great collection. Thanks for showing us. ;)

I'm still shaking my head as well.......Unbelievable...Grandma was one happenin' collector.Thank's for sharing Benz.Good luck the next time out in the field...
