inner ear bone???

I'm in florida on the east coast. I did a beach walk today. not very productive. mostly small broken turtle shell. the weather has been pretty calm. I did pick this 1 up it looks a lot like the inner ear bone of a local fish or 2 like the drum. would this possibly be from porpoise or a large prehistoric fish?

It does appear to be a scrap of bone, but I don't recognize it. It is not an otolith.

Otoliths are massive, that is, without cancellous bone. Here's an example:
