I have always been interested in the world of metal detecting. I live in south Alabama and I am really interested in getting started. I have 4 kids and they are excited to get into detecting. Anything I can do to get them outside and explore is a bonus.

We do not have a MD yet. Searching for the best ones for beginners, I cane upon this site.

Welcome, Tom! For entry level, look at the Fisher and Garrett detectors. Well know and American made.

Welcome Tom; The Garrett brand of detectors are great for new starters. The 250 and the 350 are good units for the kids to begin with. I admit to being a Garrett Fan but I have owned other detectors. Even a high dollar detector that would not do what my Garrett AT Pro does. Enjoy and get those kids out there "Dirt Digging". LYNNE
