Is it one cent or a half cent

This is a half of a large coronet cent.Did people cut these in half too make half cents? I found it at a old meeting house in my home town about 1 inch down.Did not get the half with the date thanks H H

I believe they did. Last Year at A site I found a Quarter of one. A perfect Quarter. There Was No way it could have been done By a Lawnmower or Accident.
