Hi,
I found this coin on auction. It is not labled with the name of the coin but it only says it's from an old collector (possibly father).
I don't see any date on it but it looks something like a Polish Sigismund III dukat.
Could this be a real gold coin or just some fake gold plated piece of copper?

The quality doesn't seem to be there so I'd say likely is a cast plated fake. Any sign of a casting seam on the edge?

These are the only photos there are of this coin. The top dose seem to be thicker as if it was casted from the top.

I know absolutely nothing about dukats, but if you are unable to find help i do know a very serious dukat collector who could assist you P.M. for contact info......

It looks like a gold plated fake. I would agree with a cast or even a electroplate copy.

The obverse is the same as a 10-ducat Sig. III coin but this reverse is not the same as the Coat of Arms with Lions I have seen on other 10 ducat Sig. III coins. The 10-ducat in gold weighs about 33 grams and is 41 mm in diameter. If yours has those measurements, it would be wise to have it tested for real gold. If the seller or the auctioneer wont guarantee the authenticity of the coin, that would be a 'red flag', for sure.Don.....
