I know coppers are worth around 2x face, but is it really worth it to save them and then try and sell them for melt?

Besides, personally i dont even know any coin shops that will buy rolls of pennies.
Do you have to send them to a refiner?

I bought a box of cents to search after being skunked on halves 6 boxes in a row just to change things up, and ive gone through 3 rolls and pulled around 50 coppers, but then i got to thinking about whether or not I could even turn a profit off them.

Any input?

I think its better to wait till it gets closer to when they lift the ban on melting cents. I'd rather put that money in silver till then.

I've kept some copper, I'm sure down the road it's going to be worth more.

Find the previous twelve threads on this same topic, and you'll get some good in-epth answers to this question. :-)

Heck yes it's worth it to hoard copper.

Where else in CRH can you get $6-7 in profit for every $25 in coins you get?
How many penny boxes are going to skunk you?

People are buying $50 in copper pennies right now for $80-100.

Check THIS out - I went to the bank, they gave me a box of pennies. I was pretty bummed when I looked at them (didn't look until I got home) and saw through the holes in the top of the box that they were all brand new 2010 Ds.

Then I see that they are going for $36-37 plus shipping on ebay.

I couldn't believe it! My box sold in less than 24 hours for $36 buy it now.

Pennies might not be big money, but I feel a LOT more comfortable dumping pennies (with some dimes too) at the local free coin exchange at the bank than to be dumping hundreds of dollars worth of halves.

When I deposit $50 worth of pennies, they don't really notice who I am. So I can put through a lot of coins and nobody gives me any mind.

I have heard people on this board talk about $5000 in halves and no silver. That's way uncool.

Check out RealCent.org for their copper hoarding info(that's their whole focus).

Copper hoarding is a calculation - pick up pennies, take out 20-25% copper, dump 75% other pennies.

Anyways, I'll never make more than $3-4 an hour doing it, but it's fun!
