This question has been asked many times over past few years but as silver prices keep rising is it worth it to start buying all silver related items? I go to estate auctions just about every weekend and you can typically buy old pieces of silverware and cheap jewelry for next to nothing. Most of the time they can't give it away. Same with copper items.
If it is worth buying, where would I take it to get scrap value for it and also is it worth trying to get the silver plate off of the items.
What pieces to buy? Sterling Silver, Silver Plated, etc?

Thanks.

Many like to do this mainly for the fun of it and not thinking of the profit side though some extra cash can be realized but you won't get rich and your time is definitely worth more money. Copper can be sold to a scrap yard, but unless you have a few pounds, the gas money will cost ya more than what you'll get. Gold and silver can be sold to Midwest Refineries which pays 94 % of spot after it is refined. They have a website you can Goggle.

Like I said, the fun is in the finding and some nice jewelry can be found at these sales, though you also need to know your semi precious stones and gold/silver. I know a old couple that visits garage and yard sales just for the fun of finding nice gold pieces for her collection. She says she finds more gold this way than hunting the beaches.
