Dug this today in a yard I've been to twice now. The first time there, I found a 1943 2 Franc coin, and today I found this and a tag (aluminum?) that reads "Postage Guaranteed: Finder deposit any mailbox. Disabled American Veterans. Cincinatti, OH 45214". I don't know what it is yet either, but it seems like it will be easy to figure out if I sit down with it for a few minutes.

Regardless, I know that a WWII veteran lived in this house based on what I found and what the current owner told me, but is this thing here a medal of some sort? If so, military? Boy scouts? There is nothing on the back, and it rang up in the copper/bronze area. The outside says "Peaceful Powerful Prosperous USA" and the banner reads "Preparedness".

Also found some 7.62x39mm cartridges on the other side of the yard. They were apparently developed during WWII and of Soviet origin, but I don't know if they're in any way related to the other stuff I'm finding or if they're still being used today. I know I've never found another one like them though.

PATRIOTIC HOME FRONT WATCH FOB C.1930's Disc shaped fob with slotted loop on one edge. Face is centered with nicely detailed, deep relief spread eagle on crossed cannon, holding a ribband reading "PREPAREDNESS". Edge has three panels, each a different color of fired enamel, red/white/blue, reading "USA/PROSPEROUS/POWERFUL/PEACEFUL". 1'' in diameter. Shiny brass where not enameled.

Anderson Militaria website lists that piece as a 1930's era "patriotic home front watch fob". The three sections originally had red, white, and blue enamel, and Anderson prices their example at $25.

Cool - if you can find anything else out let me know. I didn't even know what a watch fob was until about 5 minutes ago, so you're way ahead of me here in terms of knowledge of this piece, although I'll continue to look around as well. Thanks guys!

Back in the day the DAV would send you a miniature license plate maybe 1/2"X1 1/2" with you license plate number and state. If lost and put into any mailbox or collection box, it would be sent to them and they would forward it to you. You put them on your key ring.
Motel/Hotel's did it on the flap attached to the key to your room. Neat find on the watch fob. Good luck.

I'm assuming you're talking about the aluminum piece I mentioned above?
